I Know... Run Slower

Workout: 8 Mile Easy Run

Now that Indy is over I am blending the McMillan Training Program with the Hal Higdon Intermediate I Marathon Training program.  Basically I’ll keep my weekly runs the same from McMillan and work in the long weekend runs from Hal.

According to this new plan I was to run 8 today.  I ended up running with the team.  I hadn’t been over to Lansing in a while and needed to pick up some new shoes and wanted to log some miles with team.  It was a great day for running and a lot of fun.  Most of the group seemed to be doing their 20 mile run in preparation for Bayshore.  There were only a handful of us doing anything less.

I ran with Sheila again which was great.  The problem is I think we both push each other a little.  We were running sub 8:30’s for most of the run.  She’s fighting a knee issue and I just ran Indy really fast yesterday.  Perhaps we should have taken it a little easier.

When we got back Ann, my coach, really let me have it about slowing down on my long runs.  I mean she let into me for a good 3 or 4 minutes.  And she’s right, I know she’s right, I just get so amped up.  So I will try to do better this weekend as I run my second 20 mile run (15.5 @ 5/3rd + 4.5 extra miles)  I’m shooting for 9:00’s.

So after the run I was sore.  Not terrible but now I’m all panicked about getting hurt.  So I tried the cool bath thing.  Lots of people talk about ice baths, and while was not willing to go that far, I did soak in the tub with cool water.  It actually seemed to help.  Maybe I’ll throw in some ice next time.

The other fun thing was I started talking to Karen (the short & middle distance coach).  And she got me all fired up about SD and Chicago.  She said Detroit was nice for a first Marathon but kind of dull compared to these others.  It’s the longest conversation I’ve had with her but it was really great.  I so ready to go!
