The first Run is in the Books!

Workout: 7 Miles

Today was the beginning of my NYC Marathon Training Program. I’ll be training with the KAR/Gazelle program again this summer. Last year I think I burnt out driving to Kalamazoo on Saturdays as well as Tuesdays & Thursday for the various run. This year I’m going to stick with the Saturday runs and then try to make it to speedwork training on Tuesdays. But if I have to miss it that’s OK too.

This morning we ran 7 miles through Western’s Campus. It was pretty fun but I just about puked on a long uphill. Looks like I will have to get some more hill workouts into my program. I lined up with the 9:30 pace group. I think we were actually running a little faster (9:15’s) which seemed fine. I may need to bump up to the 9:00/m pace before we are done, but for now this seems like a good crowd.

Anyway it’s good to be underway again. I’m finding it tough to run at night though so I am going to try to make myself run in the mornings. We’ll see how that works out.

Woo Hoo! I’m In!

From the New York Road Runners

Dear Thomas Wiswell

Congratulations! You have a confirmed spot in the ING New York City Marathon 2007. You're in for the experience of a lifetime.

I really had resigned myself to not getting in. Especially when I read the article that 98,000 people had applied. I am very geeked and already have multiple hotel rooms book (at $450/night). It’s not cheap to stay in the City, but oh well.

So it looks like Dublin will have to wait for another year. I was kind of excited about that race as well but truly NYC is my first choice.

Please let me know if you’d like to come root me on as I have plenty of rooms. Just start saving your pennies now!
