Finally Feeling Better!

Workout: 6 miles

So my plan the last few weeks has been to get ready for my marathon training program which starts next month. I though it would just take a couple of weeks of dedicated running to get back into the swing. WRONG! I’m not sure how long I’ve been back running consistently but it seems like a month.

But the good news is I have only missed one run and I’m starting to feel like I’m getting back in shape. I had a good run last night and a great run tonight. I’m getting close to 9:00/m again which is great.

Tonight I had a late appointment in Grand Rapids and thought it would be too late to run when I got home so I decided to run in GR. In fact I ran basically the same route as the Reeds Lake 10K.

Boy did I have fun, and worked pretty hard. I was fairly excited to be running someplace other than Hastings but on top of that there were a ton of people out and about. Lots of other runners, walkers, and bikers. It seems like I was coming across someone every few blocks. What fun.

I could tell though that my last couple of miles I was dragging a bit, so I just kept concentrating on my form and picking up my feet. I’ve noticed that when I get tired I shuffle my feet which kills my toenails. It’s funny because I actually hear my feet shuffling along rather than notice I’m being a lazy bastard.

Anyway it’s nice to feel stronger and feel like I can handle the distance. But I am wondering how in the hell I’m going to put together 26 miles. So strange because I feel like I’ve never run a marathon before. I guess that’s a good thing.

Always run faster in the rain!

Workout: 3 miles

The last week has been about getting back into running trim. The runs have been hard but not the fun kind of hard, more the I’m out of shape kind of hard. It’s been my longs that fail me long before my legs give out.

But tonight was a different story. I wanted to try to get my run in before the thunderstorms came so I raced home from work and quickly headed out the door. But just as I was doing my stretching it started to rain a bit. At that point I was committed so I started my run.

I was emboldened by my adequate performance at the Head for the Cure last weekend. It was an un-timed 5K fun run, but I felt good for the whole race which actually finished running up a steep hill.

So it really wasn’t raining that hard until halfway through the run, and then it pored, but at that point I was almost 2 miles from home. Nothing to do but run faster. I didn’t look at my watch at all during the run and ws surprised when I got home at quickly I had been clipping along (8:59/m).

All in all I am very pleased and think I am definitely moving the right direction.

Back At It

Workout: 3 miles

So I’m back at. My running the last 6 months has been erratic at best and the last 6 weeks has been fairly no-existent. I really unhappy about my fitness level and am sick of it, it’s time to get my ass back out there. I ran the Indy Mini last weekend and although I did finish I’m pretty sure I got passed by a herd of turtles at one point.

So tonight was the first run of a long way back. I know the next month is going to suck but I put myself in this hole so now it’s up to me to get myself out of it.

I do have a fun run coming up though. I’m running the 5K associated with the Green Bay Marathon. I have a friends running the Full and the Half so I thought I would tag along and do the 5K. The best part is all three races cross Lambeau near the end. Go Pack!

That’s all for now. I hope to see you out there….
