Moab Here We Come!

I’m so excited!  Somehow I talked Jack & Greg into running the Canyonlands Half Marathon with me on March 17th.  I didn’t even try that hard.  Both are active in their own ways but neither has run a half before.  For that mater Greg hasn’t ever run a race before.

Then after the race we’ll go camping for a few days in Moab!  It sounds like a great guys weekend.  Should be fun and I’m really looking forward to it!

Greetings my peeps!

As you can tell I have been poor about keeping up my Blog.  I guess I just got tired of writing the same thing for every run.   So I think I will reserve comment here for when I actually have something to say!  Novel idea huh…  I will however still maintain my my upcoming races list for those of you who can’t wait to see what I’m going to do next.  Also, I’m planning on maintaining my log on my PC.  I think some of the reports are helpful.

Chicago is over.  It was a lot of fun thanks to Kim and all my friends who turned out to cheer with us and run with us.  You guys rock!  Also, the sheer number of people was incredible.  I hope to run it again some day but will probably pick another Marathon to do next fall because I have a long list to work through.  At this point I have my eye on Dublin, I mean they have to have good beer at the end of that one.

In the mean time I think I’ll take it easy and just run for the sake of running through the holidays with a couple of races thrown in.  I’ll do a half sometime in January someplace warm and then really tool up for the Mini next may.  I’d like to set a new PR there, but last year will be tuff to beat.

Anyway that’s the plan.  Stay tuned as I promise to update this site before too long.

Back to the track!

Workout: 2 mile easy, 2x2mile Tempo, 2 mile easy

Wow, what a beautiful night. Can you believe it’s October and we had a 70 degree sunny night?

Well I made the trip back down to Kalamazoo to run with the J’s again tonight. They are really getting very fast and although I can hang on the longs runs, when they start clipping along at 7’s and sub 7’s it’s too much for me.

Anyway we did our 2 mile warm-up through Western’s Campus which was a lot of fun. I don’t know the campus all that well so it was great to be out and about on campus and get a mini tour! We even stumbled along a bunch of other runners which is always great to see.

Then came the Temp part of the run. I forgot my Garmin so I was sort of at the mercy of the group. I’m not 100% sure but Chuck said we were running sub 7:30’s for two miles. I was pretty sure my lungs were going to explode! Anyway I sort of wussed out a bit on the second 2 miler although I noticed I was keeping up with the J’s. Well not keeping up, but consistently 100 yards back.

Anyway I got the speedwork in. Arg!

Kim & I have a plan!

Upon thinking about my 20 miler on Saturday I have come to the conclusion that I’m going to start Chicago at 9:00’s and if I have juice at the end then I will give it the gas. But I know Kim has been training and I was thinking she was running sub 9’s and I knew I might not be able to hold that for 26.2.

It was time to fess up and tell Kim I wasn’t going to be able to run sub 9’s with her. So I shot her an email this morning on low and behold she has no interest in running sub 9’s. In fact 10’s may be more of the plan she is going with. What a huge relief for me! I can do 10’s!

She was concerned that 10’s would mess up a PR shot for me and I told her I was not shooting for a PR in Chicago, just to have fun so I think we are all set. Plus it will be nice to have someone holding me to 10’s because I think we all know I don’t seem to be able to do that for myself.

Anyway I’m feeling better about the whole thing and can’t wait for the 21st. Now I am on the taper… Have I mentioned how much I hate the taper!

3 more weeks.
